Jeannie in a Bottle

Life as a mum in Adelaide, Australia

We recently received an invite to a special screening of Mecha Builders at the Australian Space Discovery Centre and I thought this was the perfect time to visit as we had never been to the discovery centre before.

While SAFM's Holiday Fun Fair has ended, I still wanted to write about it so that you (and I) can bookmark this event for 2023. This 10-day-event timed during the school holidays and held at Bonython Park was just the perfect size for my toddler to enjoy.

As a toddler mum, I have an immense appreciation for all things child-friendly and FREE! And Adelaide is certainly blessed with plenty of things to do with kids that are absolutely free.

Our favourite playground of the year would have to be George Street Reserve.

Location:

George Street, Marion, SA

Okay okay, I may be a little biased as it's so close to us. But seriously, read on to find out why I've deemed it our favourite for 2022.

Inner West Domestics has just launched in Adelaide and they have so kindly gifted this mama with a General Clean. Already established in Sydney and Melbourne, they have expanded their services to Adelaide.

Thanks to South Australia's Great State Voucher, we got to enjoy a staycation at the Oval Hotel for $199 for the night with $50 credit to their restaurant. What I loved about this hotel was the ambiance automatically made you feel like you were in a posh hotel. I also enjoyed the free access to Next Gen Health Club. What I didn't like was that you had to walk that distance to enjoy the amenities at Next Gen (as the hotel itself didn't have any of those amenities such as a swimming pool or a gym). Perhaps not a big issue in good weather but it was a rainy winter day when we were there. Overall we still really enjoyed our stay. Make sure to watch the vlog for a tour and more details.

Always,
Jeanne

This restaurant had one of the strictest reservation policies I've come across in Adelaide so far. That sort of trouble certainly set me up to have high expectations. But with good reviews, we were keen to have a date at Shobosho.

Last weekend, we paid a visit to the Winter Village. It's their first year in Adelaide and I wanted the chance to dine in an "igloo". And of course I thought it'd be a lovely day out for my toddler.

The husband and I finally managed to go on our first child-free date since becoming parents 15 months ago! My restaurant choice for this special day was Chicco Palms because number 1: Instagrammable interiors (because that's so important, right?lol) and number 2: I absolutely love Italian cuisine.

Hello to our first family staycation of the year, thanks to South Australia's Great State Voucher. It's funny, even though we don't live too far from the CBD, we're only ever really exploring the CBD when we're staying in a hotel in the city. Our most recent CBD staycation was at Intercontinental Adelaide. This time, we stayed at the fairly new Crowne Plaza Adelaide.

Adelaide Fringe 2021 has officially kicked off and we had the pleasure of being invited to the opening weekend for children's event, Monski Mouse's Baby Disco Dance Hall. As a new mum, it was my first time to attend a children's show and I didn't really know what to expect. All I knew was that I have a very cheeky, friendly toddler who loves to go out and also loves to dance. So obviously this show would be perfect for her, right?

I am so happy about today's playground find! For the first time, my 14-month-old was actually immediately excited to play. She basically ran with excitement at this playground. I'm sure seeing some bigger toddlers contributed a lot to her excitement. But also, the way the playground was set up was very conducive to toddler play. Even better is that Sheidow Park is only a short drive from where we're located in the South of Adelaide.

Hello to my first Adelaide restaurant review. I often get asked for restaurant recommendations but I'm certainly no expert. That's probably why this is the first time I'm sharing about an Adelaide restaurant here on the blog. But I thought it would be nice to share the little gems I come across here on the blog. From here on, I'll be sharing good finds with you guys. (Ordinary or disappointing finds won't make it to the blog simply because I don't have all that time. Lol.) So why did Akimitsu Australia make it to my list? Read on.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas with family. In the week leading up to Christmas, we got to visit Santa’s Wonderland SA held in the Adelaide Showground. I was fortunate enough to have received a PR invite as you would have seen on Instagram. But I wanted to share a review here on the blog as well. Thankfully, despite 2020's covid-19 whirlwind, Santa still came to visit. And we got to explore this wonderland.

Now that my 10-month-old has mastered her walking and has levelled up on her exploring, I'm constantly on the hunt for toddler-friendly parks. Plus points if they're only a very short drive away. So I thought it would be good to share our little adventures on the blog so I can always go back to them when I run out of ideas. On this day, we were off to visit family in Glandore so we checked out Jubilee Park so our little one can have some fun first.

Back in July, we booked an overnight stay at Intercontinental Adelaide. It was hubby's birthday week, he was in dire need of a little holiday, pandemic restrictions were eased, I had about enough of being cooped up... and the hotel had a huge promo going on. So we thought, why not? I didn't know it then, but apparently we were literally their first customers on their first day opening post pandemic. No wonder why they had a huge discount going on!

The husband and I spontaneously decided to go out for an easy walk to take bub along on. After a quick google of "pram friendly walks in Adelaide/South Australia", we headed off towards Onkaparinga. Well after some miscommunication, Google led us to "turn left" where there was actually no road to turn left on. Oops. With a baby complaining about being on the road for too long, a quick detour led us here. Spoiler: it is NOT pram friendly. But boy was it beautiful.

Well hello blog, it's been a while! I last took you with me as I visited the rock pools at Second Valley. Today, we're visiting another beach in South Australia with a perfectly Instagrammable "rock pool" at Sellicks Beach. These rock pool views are such gems and I'm always keen to hunt for them. Want to find out exactly where to find this location? Read on and I'll take you there!

South Australia's beaches are absolutely beautiful to say the least. Perhaps I shall make it a personal mission to visit each one. For today, let's visit an Instagram-favourite - Second Valley. It was my first time there and of course I was on the hunt for the most beautiful views. Don't you hate it when Instagrammers refuse to say where the exact location of where a photo was taken? Today, I'll show you exactly where to find these rock pools at Second Valley.

It's Spring in Australia. The sun has come out to play, and so have I. Off we went for a quick road trip down south of Adelaide to pay the Fleurieu Peninsula another visit.
