Wakeboarding at Papa Kit's

by - 2:06 PM

It's my last week in my beloved city and I have been incredibly busy. My schedule is just jam-packed right now as I make the most out of what little time I have left.

Fortunately, my friends and I got to sneak in one more adventure before I leave the country so here's one more travel post for the blog, featuring our wakeboard adventure at Papa Kit's, Lilo-an, Cebu, Philippines. This was on my bucketlist and I'm so glad I got to cross that off my list before leaving!

I've been sandboarding (which was way more scary by the way. Check out the link to read more about it!) before but wakeboarding means that you're being dragged across the water.  I was honestly a bit scared as I had a minor surgical procedure done on my underarms a little over a month before but it seems that I had nothing to worry about. Since we were a group of beginners, the guides made sure to go easy on us and instructed us on what to do.

They started us on the knee board first. You strap yourself in like this and you hold on to the rope handle and they'll drag you across the water. Once you reach the other side, you undo the knee straps, lie on the board with your tummy down, hold on to the handle, and they'll bring you back. Easy, right?
And since you've done so well on that first round, it's time for the real deal.
You strap your feet in like in the photo above, hold on to the handle and try to make it across the water. The key is to tuck your head in, bend your knees a little, put your weight on your heels (and not on the toe areas), hold on with your elbows bent close to your torso and keep your balance. I probably fell into the water at least 4 times before I finally got the hang of it. Never give up, right?
That's me in the photo, making my final round, no falls at all! And that's Kenny cheering me on of course. :)

One round on the knee board costs about P150. (Don't go for this deal, it's such a waste, that one round is definitely not enough.) While if you book one hour for a group of 6, it's P500 per person. Definitely worth it to me!

Further, I found the set-up quite safe. The water comes directly from the sea but the sand is free of rocks and whatnot. We went on a perfectly cloudy day and the water was just beginning to rise so when we fell into the water, the water only came up to the chest, which made it very easy to get back on the board.
I had a blast! One of the things I love about Cebu is that it's just so easy to drive to the beach or an adventure like this. Oh Cebu, you'll always be home to me. <3
