Jacaranda Trees in Adelaide

Jacaranda trees along Daws Road
I had been wondering what these pretty purple trees were. I would be on the bus, grumpy in the morning, and these rows of purple trees that lined the streets would somehow make me feel so much lighter. "Pretty trees.. pretty, pretty trees," I would think. Such profound thoughts, eh?

As an Adelaide newcomer, I had to do my research to find out just what these pretty, purple trees were. As it turns out, Jacaranda trees were said to be planted around Adelaide in the 1920s and 1930s and heavily line the streets of Goodwood and Unley among others. It is said that the trees only bloom for about 2 weeks during the spring. But this year, due to an exceptionally dry spring season, they have graced us for a while longer.
Luckily for me, I have a very supportive hubby who drove and walked several blocks with me just so I could take some photos with the purple Jacaranda trees.

These pictures don't quite do their beauty justice, but in other subdivisions, it truly looks like "purple rain" with the purple petals on the ground. Isn't God amazing? What an artist He is to create such beauty in nature.
