Beginner Camping at Innes National Park

by - 6:40 PM

After 2 years of living in Australia, I finally went on my first camping adventure. As a complete beginner (okay yes, I've been a pampered little princess all my life), the experience was new and exciting, What better place to try it out than at Innes National Park in Marion Bay, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia?

Where To Stay:
While there are several camping grounds inside and outside of Innes, we chose to stay at the most popular Stenhouse Bay campground, simply because we were absolute beginners and staying closest to the entrance and the information office seemed like the safest thing to do.
At our Stenhouse Bay Campsite
What To Do:
While they say that the park is good to visit any time of the year, we visited at the end of summer - not too hot, not too cold, just right. People go swimming, surfing, kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking, or bushwalking. It's such a big park with several walking trails, that you need more than just 1 day if you want to walk all trails.
Hiking or Bushwalking at Stenhouse Bay
Another option would be to drive around the park and stop by the sites that interest you.

Have some fun. Play boardgames inside the tent when the night comes, do some romantic stargazing, go for a swim, and when it's not fire season, you can have a bonfire and  tell stories.

Take a glimpse into history. The walking trails are equipped with signs that tell you a little bit about the history of the place - from abandoned buildings, defunct modes of transportation or livelihood, and shipwrecks.

Things To Bring:
Plan out your stay - how long you will be staying there and how many meals you will need. And this will guide you on the things you need to bring. [Also check out: 12 Things To Bring When Camping for Beginners.]
Innes National Park
Budget:
The best thing about nature is that it is absolutely free. To camp at Innes, it only costs $10 for the car entry fee, and $12 for the campsite - which is very easy to book online. Aside from that, you only have to spend for the petrol/gasoline and food, and you're all set (assuming you already have camping gear, of course).
I definitely enjoyed my first camping experience and can't wait to explore more in Australia! Are you into camping? Any tips for beginners?

Always,
Jeanne
